A vote for Michael Rossman is a vote for Mona Montal and a vote for Mona Montal is a vote for Chris St. Lawrence and all the other same bad people who have gotten Ramapo into the deep trouble it is in today.  The Ramapo Town Board does not need another rubber-stamp Councilman.

Rossman, even if he believes it himself, is in no way an independent candidate. If you vote for Rossman you are really voting for Mona Montal. Mona is the main person funneling developer money into the Town Election to maintain the current corrupt Chris St. Lawrence administration and is the front for “Friends of Rossman”. Rossman was hand-picked by Montal, who serves as chair-woman of the Ramapo Democratic Committee. The developers will do anything to maintain a rubber stamp board for St. Lawrence. This has gone on for over a decade and is the primary reason Ramapo is in the deep fiscal trouble it is in today.

Please educate your friends and neighbors about the troubling connection between Michael Rossman – arguably a nice guy, but with minimal past interest in Town government – and Mona Montal – who is a major Town of Ramapo operative fighting to maintain the corrupt status quo. Is Mona just helping a friend make easy money as an elected official or will she be expecting favors in return?

It is troubling that there are still a lot of people that don’t understand that Mona runs the Ramapo Democratic Committee, and who are not familiar with her involvement in the past in raising big money for St. Lawrence’s’ re-elections. Once again the money is pouring in through her developer channels for a candidate not even willing to promote himself as a candidate and participate in meet the candidate events. We now see the last minute slanderous campaign that is underway and is funded by the money she raised.

The very idea of having someone not beholden to Montal and Chris St. Lawrence having a say in important Town decisions must have them shaking in their boots. The following provides just a sampling of information about Mona and the money fueling ads that are just being released now – at the last minute – so that Bill Weber can’t reply.

FIRST, THE NEWLY PUBLISHED LIBEL: Now we finally see how the money is being used. Just last night in the Nov 3rd Community Connections nine pages were purchased by Friends of Michael Rossman (pp 32-33,164-170). The ads are all in Yiddish and filled with falsehoods. The only way that the current power base in Ramapo can get out their bloc vote is to just lie to them. The ads in effect cast Bill Weber as a puppet of the Preserve Ramapo group, which has been cast as the bogeyman to the ultra-orthodox community for over a decade. And these ads literally are baseless scare tactics.

Preserve Ramapo is actually not involved in this election. They have no candidates in this election and haven’t financed Bill Weber’s campaign and they are not involved in any campaign planning at all. Bill is the only true independent candidate running for the Town of Ramapo Board.

Due to the last minute situation only major political parties were given the opportunity to nominate a candidate. The Republican committee nominated Bill Weber, who ran last year and has been actively involved in attending Ramapo meetings and analyzing Town finances. The Democratic Committee executives loyal to Christopher St. Lawrence nominated Michael Rossman, who has never shown any interest in town government. Bill Weber has  both the credentials and the proven interest in fixing the town to make him the most qualified candidate by far and this earned him endorsements by Preserve Ramapo, Local Electrical Union 363 , the Ramapo Teachers Association, and other local civic groups and leaders.

This attack campaign based on false associations is insulting to someone who has run a clean campaign based on issues and his own merits.

SO WHO IS MONA MONTAL?
Mona is the Director of Purchasing at the Town of Ramapo. Here are links to just a portion of articles published over the years that help you understand that she is a power player in the Town of Ramapo and that she works to preserve the current Christopher St. Lawrence stranglehold on Town Hall.

Mona’s Job: Mona makes $151,701 in taxpayer funded salary. She got there through really high pay raises from the Town (39% in 2014!!) – Chris St. Lawrence’s way of saying thank you to his most valuable operative.  http://www.lohud.com/story/news/local/westchester/2014/02/20/some-ramapo-employees-get-double-digit-pay-hikes/5646861/

Mona raised money from developers to fight the ward referendum: In her role as the head of purchasing Mona raises a lot of money for Friends of Christopher St. Lawrence and she established and funded the 63isenough PAC that led the fight against the Ward Referendum and was caught in the act when a private email she sent to a slew of developers asking for large contributions came to light: http://www.lohud.com/story/news/local/rockland/2014/10/07/groups-ties-ramapo-gvt-raised-cash-vs-wards/16863643/

Mona’s entire email can be found herehttp://www.vote6wards.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Exhibit-15-2014-09-28-Mona-Montal-Email.pdf

Mona is involved in other Town scandals. One notable scandal is this one:  http://www.lohud.com/story/news/local/rockland/ramapo/2016/07/06/ramapo-energy-consultant-settlement/86754866/

Mona Montal is the chairwoman for the Ramapo Democratic Committee.

This is an article that ties her to the committee for a long time: http://patch.com/new-york/newcity/women-in-politics-mona-montal-ramapo-democratic-committee-chair and here is another from back in 2012: http://www.rocklandtimes.com/2012/08/09/house-of-horrors/

Mona used her position as the head of the Democratic Committee to get Rossman nominated. Here is an article on the Preserve Ramapo site about the nomination: http://preserve-ramapo.com/monas-gamble-works-ramapo-democratic-committee-maneuvers-rossman-on-to-town-board/ It looks like they published an email from Steven White who was at the Committee meeting that Sunday morning.

The address for the Friends of Rossman campaign fund is Mona Montal’s home address. This is copied from the NY State Board of Election site:

Michael Rossman has avoided opportunities to meet the public and the press to to share his understanding of local issues and concerns and provide us with any confidence whatsoever of his ability to do the job of Town Councilman, that is because he is not capable. So when it is time for Rossman to make the difficult decisions required of a councilman, who will he be looking to for guidance and to tell him what to do? Mona?

Please make sure that Ramapo voters understand that voting for Michael Rossman is in effect like voting for Mona Montal and Chris St. Lawrence and the continuation of the same ole status quo in the Town of Ramapo. It’s time for a change!
